Goodman Co. LP: PTAC Energy Management System
September 4, 2006
The DigiSmart™ wireless control system is an operations management tool, designed for use with Amana®-brand PTACs. The control system allows users to control the environmental conditions in individual rooms and it helps manage their energy costs. It can be managed either on-site for a single property, or from one central location for multiple properties. Developed in collaboration with Tridium Inc. and Everex Communications Inc., the product employs self-configuring, radio frequency (RF)-based wireless mesh technology. To create the wireless mesh, an antenna is plugged into the control board of each individual PTAC unit. According to the manufacturer, the wireless mesh offers more stability than older hub-and-spoke networks by providing redundant communication paths. The DigiSmart system includes in-room wireless thermostats, occupancy sensors, and a Web-based control platform. The controller and the software work together to communicate system information via Web pages and reports.
