Proe Power Systems (Thousand Oaks, CA) announced that it has been awarded an order for its recently developed Proe™ gas turbine recuperator by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. According to the company, the patent-pending device is a simple heat exchanger that recovers over 90% of the heat from a gas turbine engine’s exhaust.
The recuperator allows the recovered heat to be returned to the turbine engine itself, used to produce steam for a separate steam turbine, or used for heating air or water in combined heat and power systems. In most applications, the company says that system fuel consumption can be halved.
