GE ECM: Motor Troubleshooting Device
June 9, 2005
The one-button TecMate Pro is a troubleshooting device for field testing the company's variable-speed motor in HVAC applications. The tester is designed to help service technicians correctly diagnose the ECM motor. The motor operates in one of two modes: thermostat mode, which is controlled by a 24-VAC signal, usually from a thermostat, or a variable-speed mode, which is controlled by a pulse-width modulating signal. In both modes, the device is capable of isolating a motor failure, apart from other HVAC controller failures. The tester plugs into the ECM's 16-pin connector and operates the motor independently of the system. The TecMate Pro replaces the four-button TecMate.
