Venting Requirements Reviewed by National Building Code

OTTAWA — The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) recently invited stakeholders to comment on proposed changes to the 2010 National Building Code (NBC). Even though the review period has concluded, industry members may wish to note proposed changes include a requirement for venting that outlines minimum separation distances to vent products of combustion. Traditionally, the NBC references CSA B149.1 (Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code) concerning vent clearance termination requirements. Proposed changes are more restrictive than those listed in the B139.1 standard. For more information contact David Terlizzi at 800-267-2311 ext. 263 or at dterlizzi@hrai.ca.
