CHANTILLY, Va. - The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) has announced that its newly updatedSeismic Restraint Manual: Guidelines for Mechanical Systems, third edition, 2008, is now available. The manual received final American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approval in December 2008.

TheSeismic Restraint Manual: Guidelines for Mechanical Systemsis an updated set of guidelines that shows designers and contractors how to determine the correct restraints for sheet metal ducts, piping, and conduit, so they are more likely to remain attached to the building during a seismic event. The 202-page manual shows how very low- and very high-risk areas of the country can be accommodated. Revised to comply with current building codes, the new edition includes a more extensive list of bracing options.

SMACNA is an American National Standards Developing Organization (SDO) and is accredited by the American National Standards Institute.
