When it comes to helping retailers meet supermarket sustainability targets, Copeland has developed a variety of tools and capabilities along their paths to Net Zero. For more than a decade, we’ve been developing eco-friendly, energy-efficient refrigeration technologies designed to reduce both Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Today, we’re developing multiple solutions that utilize next-generation, lower-GWP refrigerants — such as CO2, R-290 and emerging A2Ls — to deliver GHG emissions reductions. These include:

  • Centralized CO2 transcritical booster (TCB) compression for large supermarkets
  • Refrigeration and case controls optimized for lower-GWP alternatives
  • Advanced leak detection capabilities to minimize direct emissions and maximize performance and safety

Leading retailers are leveraging our E3 supervisory control system and energy management expertise to bring all critical facility energy consumption into centralized control. These advanced controls can be used to:

  • Reduce peak facility loads via smart optimization techniques and machine-learning algorithms
  • Coordinate with local utilities to reduce grid loads and incentivize energy-efficient operations
  • Enable enterprise-wide monitoring of store fleets to drive proactive maintenance programs and prioritize store upgrades

We continue to build upon our industry-leading compression technologies to improve energy efficiencies in new installations and retrofit refrigeration systems.

  • Enabling the use of variable-capacity modulation techniques via digital compression technologies and VFDs, such as our new Copeland™ variable frequency drives, EVM/EVH Series
  • Providing industry-leading energy efficiencies that help retailers to qualify for utility rebates and incentives

To help preserve food quality and minimize food waste throughout the perishable cold chain, many producers, retailers and carrier networks rely on Copeland’s suite of cargo tracking and monitoring devices and software. Our GO real-time trackers — combined with Oversight software — provide stakeholders with live access to shipment temperatures and locations, alerts and notifications of excursions which collectively help keep in-transit perishable food fresh while prolonging shelf life.

Regardless of your company’s current progress on its path to Net Zero, Copeland is ready to help you take the next steps and define a strategy that meets your short- and long-term sustainability targets. Today, we’re partnering with market leaders in the food retail space to help them take a holistic assessment of their direct and indirect emissions. By applying our expertise and proven sustainability solutions, your company can reduce GHG emissions in nearly every operational aspect.
