KEYWORDS: alternative refrigerants / flammable refrigerants / Gas Detector / leak prevention / refrigerant leaks / safety and HVAC
1/19/23 2:00 pm to 1/19/24 12:00 pm EST
Contact: Ian
Air conditioning systems and refrigeration manufacturers face new challenges with the transition to flammable refrigerants and developers need to ensure safe operation of their products. Gas leak detection has become a critical focus for commercial and industrial refrigeration systems designs to meet UL 60335-2-40 certification. OEMs have several options for gas sensing technologies for detecting A2L gas leaks. Unfortunately, many of these technologies do not meet UL requirements for safety. Other selection issues include device lifetime, reliability, and ease of maintenance.

This presentation explores:
  • Methods of A2L refrigerant detection
  • Type of gas sensors
  • Environmental issues that affect lifetime such as high temperatures, condensation, and chemicals used to clean coils
  • Solutions that meet or exceed UL requirements
