Andy Heinze, distribution channel development manager, Sporlan Division of Parker Hannifin, discusses Sporlan’s new refrigeration system training center. Posted Dec. 11.

Q: Sporlan recently opened a state-of-the-art training center. Please tell us more about it.

A: The grand opening occurred last month. The facility is 1,600 square feet in size and is split into two segments: a classroom and workshop. The classroom includes brand-new conference tables and built-in computers, all connected to our centralized server, where we can access different programs like the Sporlan Selection program and our Chilled Skills online courses. The classroom also has a built-in kitchen for convenience; wall-mounted, show-quality product cutaways; and it overlooks Sporlan’s distribution center so participants can view the distribution operations. The workshop area is probably my favorite part of the training center. It features lots of diamond plate accents, a rugged epoxy floor, and several teardown-rebuild stations. The shop area also has a live refrigeration system that we use to troubleshoot various system malfunctions.

Q: Why did Sporlan decide to open such a facility?

A: Our distribution channel partners felt Sporlan had the expertise to fill a niche of refrigeration system application training in the HVACR industry. Since Sporlan manufactures refrigerant flow control products — from basic to advanced systems — we’ve acquired a great deal of application knowledge on the principles of how these systems operate. We recognize that technical training is paramount to today’s service technician, especially with the advent of new refrigerants that will ultimately drive new system designs.
