Rusty Cochran, owner, We Care Plumbing, Heating, and Air, joins the NEWSmakers podcast to discuss his company being named the 2014 ACCA Residential Contractor of the Year. Posted on March 28.

Q: What an honor, being named ACCA’s residential contractor of the year. What was your initial reaction?

A: Melissa [Broadus] called us to inform us we were in the final three and, eventually, that we won, and we were speechless and overwhelmed. It was like, ‘Wow. That’s awesome. We did it.’ I don’t know if there is a higher award in this industry. We’ve won plenty of awards, but this is the granddaddy of them all.

Q: Tell us a little more about your company.

A: We’re in Murrieta, California, which is northeast of San Diego, between the desert and the ocean. We participated in the ACCA standards for quality install (QI). Though we don’t do much new construction, we did it anyway, and through that process we’ve done more than 1,500 houses using that standard. When we finish a home, the homeowner gets an Energy Star certificate that states their heating and air conditioning system is Energy Star qualified, which helps differentiate us from our competition.
