One Contractor’s Response to the High Cost of Gasoline

I just read Joanna Turpin’s article [“Contractors Confront Climbing Gas Costs”] in the May 14 edition — really interesting. I am the executive director for the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (PHCC) of Ohio and wanted to share a story about how one of our contractors is handling rising gas costs.

Companies with small fleets of 5-10 vehicles are especially susceptible to the price of gasoline. One of those companies includes PHCC member Tim Frecka, Frecka Plumbing.

Frecka Plumbing, which was featured on local news station WKYC, is converting cars and trucks to run on compressed natural gas, at about $2 per gallon. Tim is bringing his fleet of 10 service vans to CNG-One [a local company that is converting cars and trucks to run on compressed natural gas] and expects to recoup the cost of conversion, about $6,000 per truck, in a few years.
