Hello! My name is Sonia Khaleel and I’m the new Web Editor at The NEWS. I’m so excited to be joining BNP Media and am thrilled to be working at a B2B magazine.
I have a background working as a copy editor for The Detroit Metro Times, and I enjoyed my time there focusing on all of the cool new things happening in the Detroit area. I also worked as a copy editor for Mic, a daily news media website that covers politics, news, entertainment, travel, and other topics. I majored in journalism at Michigan State University and worked for The State News while in college. I also studied abroad in Ghana, where I took a journalism class and shadowed reporters at The Daily Graphic. After college, I spent some time in India to intern at a music magazine called Rave, where I reported on major music news in the country.
I love everything about this industry — disseminating unbiased information to the public, interviewing people about topics they are passionate about, choosing the perfect words to write an article, editing for content and clarity, and designing publications so that they are clear and inviting to readers. I’ve loved the English language since I was a kid, and even sought to create a poetry club in high school that published a magazine of original student works. The fact that I now get to work with words in my day job is honestly a dream come true. I’m very lucky.
I joined the BNP Media team because I appreciated that B2B magazines provide an in-depth focus on specific topics. Keeping industry leaders and businesses informed on pertinent developments so that they can better serve consumers is an important and useful societal function. It’s inspiring to see how sharing information really helps make the world go round and allows people to live better lives. I’m so pleased to have an opportunity to be a part of this process, and I look forward to becoming a true member of the team here.
