Feb. 6, 2006: Federal Agencies Adopt Sustainable Building Principles
WASHINGTON - In order to save energy and conserve resources, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, and General Services Administration, have agreed to a set of sustainable building principles for designing, constructing, and operating federal facilities. Energy efficiency is a key element of the principles, officially titled, "The Federal Leadership Memorandum of Understanding to adopt Guiding Principles for High Performance and Sustainable Buildings."
"Whether you are running a business, a school, or the government of the United States, getting the most out of our energy dollars just makes sense," said EPA Assistant Administrator for Administration and Resources Management Luis A. Luna. "In meeting President Bush's call to conserve our energy resources, the federal government is leading the way in the national march toward energy security and a cleaner environment."
