ST. LOUIS, MO — Engineered Support Systems, Inc. has received a subcontract for $3.3 million for the production of Army Space Heaters (ASH) for the U.S. Army. Including anticipated production options, the ASH contract value is expected to approximate $25 million, according to Michael F. Shanahan Sr., chairman and ceo.
The ASH provides automatic remote or manual temperature controlled heating to meet the environmental control needs of personnel and equipment in shelters, vans, and other enclosed areas for the U.S. military. This enhanced version will include an adaptation to equip the unit to provide clean filtered air in chemically or biologically contaminated environments. The ASH is currently being used to support ongoing U.S. military forces involved in Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan.
