DETROIT, MI — Detroit’s McKenny Elementary School was closed today while environmental contractors cleaned a classroom where low levels of black mold and elevated levels of a common indoor mold were detected.
A Detroit School District spokesperson said there is no evidence that black mold caused any sickness among building occupants. The closure and clean-up is being called a “precautionary measure” to ensure the safety of students and staff.
