Major Wind Power Plant Planned For Illinois
August 10, 2002
Illinois Wind Energy and Tomen Power Corporation plan to build a 51-MW wind power plant near Tiskilwa, IL. The Crescent Ridge wind energy project will use 34 1.5-MW wind turbines, supplying enough electricity for about 20,000 homes.
Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) is buying all the power from the project, which is expected to be completed by the middle of 2003. Unlike the majority of wind power projects, this electricity will be included in ComEd’s regular power supply, rather than sold at a premium as green power.
