MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College has a reputation for innovative solutions.
Founded in 1800 by Timothy Dwight (at the time president of Yale College), the school's original purpose was to train young men for the ministry and other learned professions of the early 19th century. In 1883, it became one of the first formerly all-male schools in New England to admit women.
