Among the many mysteries of life is the question of why the North American and Middle Eastern standard for line frequency is 60 Hertz (Hz), and why Europe uses 50 Hz.
While the Motor Doctor can’t clear up that mystery (and later in this article, I’ll even add to the complexity), I can explain some of the physics behind line frequency. While you may not need this information every day, in our increasingly global economy, it may come in handy.
