ROCK HILL, S.C. — William Charles Whitman (Bill), 88, died Aug. 12, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was born in Bennington, Vermont, and was a veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) as the director of Trades and Industry. After retiring from CPCC, he continued co-authoring eight editions of the bestselling textbook, “Heating and Air Conditioning Technology.”
Whitman is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Whitman; children, William C. Whitman, Jr. (Rosemary) of Charlotte, South Carolina, Jane Whitman Maynard (Ken) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Nancy Klotz (Bud) of Naperville, Illinois, and Stephen H. Whitman (Kim) of Ridgeway, South Carolina; grandchildren, Emily Whitman, Elliott Lyons, Shane Whitman, Margo Lyons, Kyle Whitman (Brittany), and Sarah Whitman Harris (Craig); and one great grandchild, River H. Whitman.
