ARLINGTON, Va. — Year-to-date shipments are registering in the positive range for multiple sectors of heating and cooling equipment according to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute’s (AHRI’s) September release. Gas warm air furnaces increased 17.4 percent to just over 1.8 million units as compared to the just over 1.5 million units shipped during the same period in 2012.
As for central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps combined in September, they totaled 416,179 units, up 17 percent from 355,806 units shipped in Sept. 2012. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 17.7 percent, to 283,307 units, up from 240,770 units shipped in Sep. 2012. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 15.5 percent, to 132,872 units, up from 115,036 units shipped in Sept. 2012.
