Home » AHRI Urges Mexican Government to Advance International Standards
On March 8, AHRI staff attended a stakeholder meeting in Mexico City convened by the Mexican Energy Efficiency Commission (CONUEE) to discuss the comments received on its latest minimum energy performance standard (MEPS) proposal. AHRI submitted its comments on February 19, 2018. This standard, referred to as “NOM-023-ENER-2017” in Mexico, covers split (mini-split and multi-split), and ductless air conditioning and heat pump products up to a capacity of 19,050 Watts (65,000 BTU/h).
This was the first CONUEE standards development meeting AHRI has attended, during which AHRI senior manager of international affairs Michael LaGiglia reiterated parts of AHRI’s written comments, including a recommendation that the Mexican standard reference the 2017 version of AHRI Standard 210/240 instead of the older AHRI Standard 210/240-2008. AHRI is considering participating in future meetings on this or other MEPS to represent AHRI members, increase opportunities to reference AHRI standards, and learn more about the Mexican regulatory process.
