Carrier Celebrates Environmental Milestone on Anniversary of Modern Air Conditioning
Willis Carrier launched his world-changing invention on July 17, 1902
FARMINGTON, Conn. — On the 113th anniversary of Dr. Willis H. Carrier’s invention of modern air conditioning, Carrier announced it is celebrating another milestone: 175 million metric tons of avoided greenhouse gas emissions since 2000 as a result of the installation of high-efficiency Carrier HVACR systems. The company said this environmental achievement will be captured by the Carrier CO2NSERVATION Meter, which calculates avoided greenhouse gas emissions as a result of the installation of Carrier air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems around the world.
Willis Carrier launched his world-changing invention on July 17, 1902 at Sackett & Wilhelms Lithography and Printing Co. in Brooklyn, New York. Designed to provide humidity control, Carrier’s air conditioning system improved printing processes during the hot summer months. Since its launch, modern air conditioning has changed the indoor environment by creating productive, comfortable, and safe climates to live and work in.
