New West Wins NYSERDA Award to Develop Advanced Thermal Energy Storage System
Award allows follow-on development of earlier design work
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — New West Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cybergy Holdings Inc., announced that it has been chosen by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to develop a working prototype of an advanced energy storage and power system for refrigerated truck trailers that replaces their traditional diesel-powered systems. Pending completion of contract negotiations, New West will assist in the development and demonstration of the company’s patent-pending concept called the Hybrid Thermal Energy Storage System (HTESS) that represents a new type of thermal energy storage and power system for more energy efficient refrigeration truck trailer operations in the $9 billion U.S. refrigerated food industry. The value of this award is approximately $410,000.
“This new award will allow us to build upon initial design and hardware subsystem testing of the truck trailer thermal energy storage system that we have already done for NYSERDA,” said Greg Wilcox, manager of New West’s Advanced Transportation Technology Division. “Specifically, it will allow our internal project team and those of our teaming partners to scale up the hardware based on results of the bench-scale testing to produce a full-scale prototype demonstration on a truck trailer platform.”
