May 1, 2015: Carrier to Provide Thermostats for Oklahoma Utility’s Demand Management Program
Smart Thermostats Will Help Utility Reduce Peak Demand
INDIANAPOLIS — Carrier announced it will provide Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) with its ComfortChoice® thermostat for the utility’s energy demand management program. Carrier will supply approximately 40,000 ComfortChoice Touch Smart thermostats through Silver Spring Networks, a solutions provider for smart energy networks. The thermostats will be used by OG&E for its SmartHours® program, which is looking to reduce peak demand for electricity and avoid building any new, incremental fossil fuel-fired energy generation until at least 2020.
“Managing energy consumption programs like SmartHours is an exciting prospect and opportunity for Carrier to further establish our expertise in energy management,” said Chris Nelson, president, North America HVAC Systems & Service. “Carrier is committed to working with utilities across the country to create smart, sustainable communities where industry and utilities partner for the benefit of consumers.”
