Herbert Glenn Siewert, 81, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, died Feb. 26. Siewert was a longtime veteran of the HVACR industry whose expertise bridged both residential and automotive air conditioning. He was a member of both ASHRAE and SAE.

A graduate mechanical engineer from the University of Illinois, he began his career with Carrier Corp. in Syracuse, New York. Siewert went on to work for Chrysler Airtemp in Dayton, Ohio, where, among other projects, he worked on cabin cooling systems for the Apollo space missions. He transferred with Chrysler Airtemp to Bowling Green, Kentucky, before spending the final 20 years of his career with Tecumseh Products Co. in Tecumseh, Michigan. Siewert retired from Tecumseh in 1997.

Siewert’s legacy at Tecumseh Products Co. includes the HR980 automotive compressor, which was designed for the Ford Motor Co. and is used on popular automotive models such as the Taurus LTD and Thunderbird. Siewert also worked on the original versions of several hermetic compressors that are still in production today.
