May 29, 2014: Walmart Commits to Doubling On-site Solar in the US by 2020
Walmart Has Made Significant Progress toward Its Goal to be Supplied by 100 Percent Renewable Energy
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Walmart has announced that it will double the number of on-site solar energy projects at its United States stores, Sam’s Clubs, and distribution centers by 2020. The commitment is part of Walmart’s global initiative to produce or procure 7 billion kWh of renewable energy by the end of 2020.
Over the last few years Walmart said it has made significant progress toward its goal to be supplied by 100 percent renewable energy. With this commitment, Walmart is doubling its solar projects in the United States and Puerto Rico over the next six years, compared to a 2013 baseline.
