MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Refrigerant Management Canada (RMC) announced Brody Thompson, of Brody’s Mechanical Services, Simcoe, Ontario, and Ozzie Xue, Servocraft Ltd., Toronto, as grand-prize winners in the RMC “Right” Wholesaler promotional campaign.

RMC recognizes a Right wholesaler as one who only sells R-22 from refrigerant suppliers that support its program. These suppliers voluntarily submit a levy to RMC on all of their R-22 sales. This levy funds the RMC program so that contractors handling end-of-life refrigerant can effortlessly meet all applicable federal and provincial regulations.

“The contest was launched in May 2012 to raise awareness with HVACR contractors about the importance of purchasing refrigerant from the Right wholesaler who supports RMC,” said Robert Flipse, chair, RMC. “The campaign included a survey asking contractors to tell RMC about their business, awareness of the RMC program, and whether they purchased refrigerant from a Right wholesaler.”

Results revealed that 93 percent of surveyed contractors purchase their refrigerant from a Right wholesaler and 86 percent have an environmental policy. RMC also learned that only 50 percent of the respondents were aware that the program collected and destroyed over 2.6 million kilograms of surplus refrigerant waste and 25 percent were not aware that the environmental levy paid on R-22 enables RMC to destroy the refrigerant at no cost to the contractor.
