LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Luvata has made a donation of copper materials to EDGE Outreach, an international nonprofit organization that delivers training and equipment for safe drinking water to nearly 400,000 people each year. Luvata’s donation of copper tube hairpins, which are often used in the manufacture of heat exchangers, will be used to manufacture 500 of EDGE’s highly efficient and effective water purification systems that can each sanitize up to 10,000 gallons of water per day.
According to the company, the technology is simple, easy to use, and easy to teach others. The process uses a handful of salt and a 12-V battery to produce chlorine gas, which is then pumped into contaminated water. It eliminates more than 99.9 percent of the bacteria and parasites that claim the lives of 3.6 million people each year.
