It’s often said that any company’s greatest asset is its people, and this definitely is true for refrigeration contractors. Sure, the refrigeration industry is heavily focused on products and equipment and technology. And don’t forget chemicals – trying to keep track of all the refrigerant changes is enough to make anyone’s head spin. And it clearly is in your best interest -- as the contractor whose name is on the door and on the trucks -- to keep your people as happy as possible.

Successful HVAC contracting companies operate like well-oiled machines. Employees enjoy coming to work and give their all while there. The owners of these companies excel at creating places of employment that exhibit an outstanding commitment to customers and staff. These leaders nurture jobs into careers, offering lifelong employment that extends well beyond just a paycheck.

Hunter’s founding of Hunter Heat & Air in 2006 was a classic HVAC industry start-up: himself, his brother-in-law, and one truck. Today, Hunter is the co-owner — along with his wife and vice president, Nicola — of a company with four locations, 32 employees, and annual sales of $5 million.
Steve Quinn, owner of JD Swallow Heating & Cooling in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, has modest goals for the company over the next five years, but working to achieve those goals is what has helped him win the Best Contractor to Work for Award in the North Central region.
The employees of IC Refrigeration are a close-knit group. The company goes above and beyond to put the welfare of its employees and their families before the business, creating an open, family-oriented culture, which is something the employees know is rare in today’s business world.
