Partnership Will Accelerate Thin-Film Solar Development
August 21, 2013
GE and First Solar have announced a technology partnership to advance thin-film solar cells and modules. First Solar has acquired GE’s global cadmium telluride (CdTe) solar intellectual property portfolio, to further develop photovoltaic (PV) thin-film solar technology.
It may be possible soon to power products with peel-and-stick versions of solar cells, thanks to a partnership between Stanford University and the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
Global Photonic Energy Corp. (GPEC), developer of an Organic Photovoltaic (OPV™) technology designed to enable low-cost solar power generation, has announced the demonstration of a thin-film solar cell that can potentially provide electricity at grid parity, or the cost of traditionally provided electricity.
