Voluntary Certification Programs and Regulatory Requirements Are Driving the Market’s Growth

Commercial buildings, in particular, consume large amounts of energy related to HVAC, water heating, lighting, and other building systems. Efforts to reduce energy consumption have led to increasing deployments of energy efficiency retrofits for commercial and public buildings.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has issued an executive order directing New York state agencies to increase energy efficiency in state buildings by 20 percent in seven years, one of the most ambitious initiatives in the nation that is expected to save millions of dollars for the state.
The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International urged the U.S. Senate to pass S. 3591, also known as the Commercial Building Modernization Act (CBMA), which would extend and enhance the tax deduction at Section 179D of the Internal Revenue Code.
