Presentation titled Following ASHRAE 188 with Limited Time, Money, and Personnel
December 16, 2016
HC Info will host a live online discussion about pressure facing building operators in the U.S. to comply with ASHRAE Standard 188 regarding Legionella risk, and on health departments to establish regulations.
The European collaborative Poseidon project says it has developed a scanner that can detect Legionella bacteria in under one hour, rather than the 10 days of cultivation and analysis normally required.
Reduces the risk of propagation of cooling tower-borne pathogens
October 26, 2016
Legionella, the bacteria that causes potentially fatal Legionnaires’ disease, and other strains of pathogens that can be hosted by cooling towers, can now be substantially reduced by the development of a new antimicrobial cooling tower introduced by Delta Cooling Towers.
He brings environmental engineering and Legionella control experience
October 24, 2016
Special Pathogens Laboratory has announced that Kevin E. Merritt, MSE, has joined the firm to expand its Legionella consulting services as director of SPL Consulting Services. An environmental engineer, Merritt is experienced in project management, team leadership, and water management programs.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report in early June about the increased number of Legionnaires’ disease cases and the need for building water management certainly caught the attention of the media.
Lessons from UCSF Medical Center’s successful program
August 30, 2016
An effective water management program is necessary to prevent Legionella in building water systems. In the 60-minute webcast, “Lessons to Learn from UCSF Medical Center on Executing a Water Management Program,” Matt Freije of HC Info will interview officials from UCSF Medical Center about its program.
New CDC toolkit offers tips for reducing germ’s growth, spread in building water systems
June 10, 2016
More effective water management might have prevented most of the Legionnaires’ disease outbreaks the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) investigated from 2000 through 2014, according to a new CDC report.
Will provide a demonstration of how to comply with ASHRAE Standard 188
January 7, 2016
To aid building owners and operators in creating a Legionella water management plan to comply with ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 188-2015 or New York laws, Matt Freije of HC Info is offering a webcast where he will configure a water management plan for a sample New York City office building.
The guide is aimed at those looking for basic information about Legionella
November 23, 2015
BSRIA has announced the release of its second topic guide on the subject of Legionella, which is available to download for free from its website. The guide is aimed at those looking for basic information about Legionella including definition, history, and prevalence.
No building should be making people sick; however, because of poor maintenance and cleaning efforts, the water in cooling towers has the ability to serve as the breeding ground for a variety of bacteria. One such bacterium is Legionella, the root cause of the recent major Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in New York City.
