The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) has announced funding for 12 new projects aimed at developing generator technologies that will improve efficiencies in residential combined heat and power (CHP) systems.

Although some sectors of the fuel cell industry have struggled, stationary fuel cells have seen two years of strong growth, with an ongoing boom in prime power and residential combined heat and power (CHP) system shipments.
The number of installed residential combined heat and power (resCHP) systems, in both single-family and multifamily homes, is expected to reach 13.5 million worldwide by 2022, according to a report from Pike Research.
