The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) today announced the appointment of John Lanier to be chief operating officer of North American Technician Excellence (NATE). Lanier will report to Stephen Yurek, AHRI president and CEO.

While the summer is the busiest season for most of our contractor readers, for those of us covering the industry, the first three months of the year are the most jam-packed. Here are some interesting items I have picked up during my travels.

Shipments of central air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, gas warm air furnaces, residential storage water heaters, and commercial storage water heaters in the United States all showed double-digit increases in January, according to the latest statistics released by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).

Lochinvar vice president of engineering, Neil Rolph, was named the recipient of the 2013 Richard C. Schulze Distinguished Service award by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).
