Smaller-diameter copper tubes strengthened with low percentages of alloying elements can withstand the higher pressures of the new refrigerants such as CO2 (R-744), according to the International Copper Association.
The International Copper Association (ICA) is presenting a new, free webinar on smaller-diameter, inner-grooved copper tubes titled “MicroGroove Copper-Tube Coils: Moving beyond Residential Applications.”
Bigger is not always better, and one recent example is the new MicroGroove technology, which was introduced in 2010. This technology is defined by smaller diameter copper tubing with enhanced inner surfaces for the purpose of reducing refrigerant charge, minimizing material content and improving heat transfer.
