Now that spring has begun, it is time to declare a winner in the first annual Anti-Freeze Challenge. This challenge asked entrants to find a way to save money, reduce energy, and maintain comfort in the average home.

I’m not good at math, but I know I wrote my first column for a magazine (the old RSC) published by BNP Media (then Business News Publishing) in June 1985. I’ve written a monthly column ever since.

Usually the biggest disaster one has to worry about on one’s wedding day is Uncle Al getting overserved and somehow ending up with the microphone and making an inappropriate toast. For a couple in Brooklyn, the bigger problem was air conditioning.

In a recent Sunday newspaper, the comic strip Zits had the teenager Jeremy intensely studying some advanced calculus, chemistry, and American literature. When he reaches time to study science, the word “chloro-fluro…” appears in one panel only to have Jeremy walk away, bits of knowledge leaking out of his brain.

Unfortunately for most duct tape manufacturers, almost nobody recommends using duct tape to seal ducts because eventually the adhesive dries out and the tape begins to peel. So what good is duct tape if you can’t use it on your ducts?

Not every piece of technology launched is designed specifically for the HVACR contractor, but It is time to move forward, change your way of thinking, and try some creative small-scale technology adoption.

When I was walking the aisles of the International Builders Show in Las Vegas I noticed two things. First, I toured the show in a lot less time than in past years. Secondly, there was one exhibitor product category that was on the rise.

So, the EPA has issued is own press release in regards to the Obama Administration’s proposed budget.
