According to the CPSC, these furnaces can overheat, causing heat exchanger cracking, burn-through, and, in extreme cases, furnace wrapper burn-through. "This can lead to heating and possible burning of drywall and other combustibles adjacent to the furnace," stated the commission.

Furnaces model numbers included in the recall are DGAM075BDD, DGAM075BDE, DGAM075BDF, DGAT070BDD, DGAT070BDE, DGAT070BDF, DGAT075BDD, DGAT075BDE, DGAT075BDF, DLAS075BDD, DLAS075BDE, and DLAS075BDF.

According to UPG, the company launched an aggressive campaign months before this voluntary recall to develop an inspection and remediation program, enlist distributor and service support, ramp up production of repair and upgrade components, and identify and notify furnace owners.

The notification effort is still under way, the company said: "Field inspections and upgrades of the furnaces subject to the voluntary recall have been under way since September."

The furnaces are sold to OEMs of manufactured homes. Direct notification to gas utilities, mobile home parks, and insurance companies is scheduled for this month and into December.
