ComStar International Inc. has announced a new refrigerant for ice rink managers to comply with the phaseout of R-22 refrigerant. The company said its replacement refrigerant is for use in flooded liquid overfeed ice rink systems and does not require changing components or oil.
Many supermarkets converted their chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigeration systems to hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) systems only to see HFCs targeted for a phaseout. Now, they’re hearing about natural refrigerants, distributed refrigeration, and cascade systems.

Festival Foods, a Wisconsin-based chain of more than 20 supermarkets, has designed its new Somers, Wisconsin, location with refrigeration equipment from Zero Zone Inc. that is designed to run on Honeywell’s Solstice® N40 (R-448A).
It may be that different levels of RDL are set in the same way that a driving license here [in Europe] allows you to drive a car or a small van up to a certain level, but to drive a bigger van or a motorbike requires some further testing or qualifications. It’s early days in our discussions, and there are a number of big issues to iron out before the project starts looking at any conclusion.
