The Dealer Design Awards are judged by 20 contractors from across the U.S. who are active in the industry and have their collective fingers on the pulse of what’s happening. This year’s competition saw numerous themes across each category, as manufacturers shared the broad goals of making products smarter, more consistent, and innovative in new and unique ways.
Variable-speed compressors and motor control drives that enable system manufacturers to achieve 25-plus SEER, 13-plus HSPF, and 29 IEER earned Emerson Climate Technologies Inc. the gold award in the Dealer Design Award’s (DDA’s) Components and Accessories category.
Next step is to move the technology out of the lab and into the hands of development partners

Torad Engineering LLC presented test results at the Purdue Conferences for its 40-ton spool compressor prototype designed specifically for next-generation, ultra-low global warming potential (GWP), medium-pressure refrigerants.
The set includes a red EZ Turn® Hose, a blue EZ Turn Hose with an EZ Access “T” Fitting built into the middle of the hose for micron gauge connection and hose purging, a 3/8-inch charging and vacuum hose with a full-flow ball valve shutoff, plus two refrigerant tank adaptors.

Through a the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant, Kansas City, Missouri-based QM Power recently commercialized a high-efficiency motor for commercial refrigerators that has the potential to transform the market.
The motor’s design uses permanent magnets in a synchronous motor topology with a controller that quickly gets the motor to its targeted speed and then efficiently shifts the motor to AC power (50 or 60 Hz) supplied directly from the grid.
