SMACNA Issues Update on Fire Dampers
CHANTILLY, VA — The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) has issued a technical paper addressing the issue of improper fire damper installation. Issued in response to reports that contractors were receiving conflicting information on fire damper and combination smoke-fire damper installations, the update specifically addresses requirements to seal the retaining angles to the wall or floor fire-rated assembly and fill the expansion space with materials such as ceramic fiber or firestopping caulks.
The complete report is available at SMACNA’s website, www.smacna.org.
