INSTALLATION: Cleanfield V3.5 wind turbine
COMPLETION: Completed
CUSTOMER: Santa Fe Air Conditioning, Gardener, Kan.
OBJECTIVE: Apply wind power technology to urban areas for greener heating and cooling.
DESCRIPTION: Santa Fe Wind and Solar Power, a division of Santa Fe Air Conditioning in Gardner, Kan., completed the first commercial installation of the Cleanfield V3.5 wind turbine on its own facility. According to the company, this was the first commercial installation of the V3.5 in the United States. The V3.5 is a 3,500 Watt three phase vertical axis turbine (VAWT) designed to be installed on commercial buildings. Without the need for a tall tower, as used in conventional wind turbines, the V3.5 can be installed in urban areas. The vertical axis units can be placed closer together and in areas where the wind has become disturbed before hitting the blades of the unit.
“Designed in collaboration with McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, the V3.5 represents state of the art technology in small wind turbines.”
