Website Offers Energy-Buying Tips

October 20, 2000
OSSINING, NY — Energy Buyer.org, a website focused on helping end users get better power pricing, posted a new tip covering retail electric rates that pay customers to reduce their loads when called upon by their utility or Independent System Operator (ISO).

According to the tip, some utilities and ISOs have recently paid very high wholesale prices for power. To balance supply and demand and to minimize costs, they are now creating or expanding “curtailable” electric rates that pay customers $0.30 to $0.40/kWh (and higher) to avoid paying even higher wholesale prices to unregulated generators.
