Spectronics Corp.: Refrigerant Leak Dye Capsules
June 9, 2005
Spectroline® Glo-Stick® dye capsules are designed for adding fluorescent dye to air conditioning and refrigeration systems. These disposable capsules are prefilled with doses of Ar-Glo® dye. The dye is injected into the operating refrigeration or A/C system, where it mixes with the refrigerant and lubricant as they circulate throughout the unit. Wherever the refrigerant leaks out, so does the dye. When the system is scanned with a high-intensity Spectroline UV or UV/blue light lamp, the leak locations are shown by a bright yellow-green glow. According to the manufacturer, Ar-Glo is solvent-free, so it cannot impair lubricant properties, and it is compatible with all commonly used refrigerants, the company states.
