May 30, 2003: ARI Announces New Scope For Ammonia Refrigeration Section

May 30, 2003
ARLINGTON, Va. — The board of directors of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) recently approved a scope change for its Ammonia Refrigeration Compressor Units Product Section. The new scope includes positive displacement ammonia refrigeration compressor units in industrial refrigeration and air conditioning applications.

"A large majority of ammonia compressors are used for industrial refrigeration, but there are also industrial air conditioning applications such as district cooling plants and university and hospital complexes that have used ammonia for air conditioning," said Ed Schinner, chairman of the section. "By changing our scope, the section is assuring that it is fully covering the broad use of the products in support of ARI's interests."

ARI's Ammonia Refrigeration Compressor Units Product Section is one of the newest ARI sections, joining ARI in late 2002. The section oversees development of ARI Standard 510-93, “Ammonia Compressor Units,” which applies to positive displacement ammonia compressor units for use in commercial and industrial refrigeration applications.

"The section's current activity is focused on reviewing ARI Standard 510," said Schinner. "We plan to publish a revised edition later this year."

The section's other activities include launching a statistical reporting program, which will be useful for planning and comparing company performance in regional and national markets.
