Lucas-Milhaupt Inc.: Triangular-Shaped Brazing Ring

March 7, 2011

The triangular-shaped brazing ring, used in aluminum joint brazing, is seated in the hairpin and directs material flow for a cleaner, stronger joint with little or no overflow. With the patent-pending triangular cross section brazing rings, there is 25 percent more surface area contact between the hairpin and return bend compared to round or rectangular rings, and more surface contact means better heat conduction between all components, claims the company. Due to the controlled heating of material, flux activation and dispersion is precise. The flux is noncorrosive, with no binder, so there’s no potential for contamination. It is available in AL718 (88 percent Al/12 percent Si) and other aluminum brazing alloys.
