Expanded Messaging Capabilities

September 19, 2000
FREMONT, CA - New messaging services designed to complement its Internet-based FleetASAP mobile resource management system are available from @Road, Inc.

Launched in 1998, Fleet-ASAP provides location to within 30 m, as well as monitoring, messaging, reporting, and scheduling capabilities for businesses with fleet vehicles, says the company. Its Messaging Basic, Messaging Plus, and iDT 2500 Internet Data Terminal with optional keyboard are designed to give subscribers expanded communication capabilities.

Messaging Basic enables two-way, free-text communication between dispatcher and tech on the road, plus the ability to select preprogrammed, user-defined messages, the company says. It also provides the capability to generate online and/or downloadable reports of outbound and inbound messages, each stamped with location-specific information.

Messaging Plus includes the above features with the addition of user-defined forms, which can be used in the field to complete and send out such things as invoices, receipts, and order forms. Online downloadable reporting includes reports on all forms sent and received, sorted by vehicle, and work flow status reports, which provide the real-time status of all vehicles.

The iDT 2500 and keyboard provides an Internet data terminal which supports Messaging Basic and Plus, and also features three serial ports to support peripherals, including the optional keyboard.
