EPA cites Milwaukee firms for Clean Air Act violations

September 14, 2000
MILWAUKEE — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently cited two Milwaukee auto service companies for alleged violations of federal regulations restricting use of CFC refrigerants.

S&S Auto Sales and Super Service, Inc., were cited for servicing motor vehicle air conditioners with a refrigerant called “McCool Chill-It.” The violations involved servicing without using properly trained and certified technicians; and failure to install the required unique fittings and to apply warning labels on air conditioners charged with this product.

Since these are preliminary findings of violations, both companies have 30 days to request a meeting with the EPA to discuss the allegations and how to resolve them. The EPA may issue compliance orders, assess administrative penalties, or bring suits against the two companies.
