February 8, 2002
BAYTOWN, TX — The Lee College Air Conditioning Club is receiving entries for its 12th annual troubleshooting contest, the “Texas Shootout.” The contest is backed by corporate sponsors, including Carrier South Texas and Advanced Test Products (ATP).

The competition is for air conditioning students and started as a southeast Texas-area competition. Today, the contest has grown into a multi-state, national-level contest. This year’s prizes are valued at $8,000 and will include a variety of air conditioning tools.

The troubleshooting competition, which includes both beginner and advanced levels, will begin at 9 a.m. on March 9 at the Lee College air conditioning laboratory, located in Technical-Vocational Building 3 on the college’s main campus in Baytown, TX.

For the written portion of the competition, participants will complete the Industry Competency Exam (ICE). The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) has waived the fee for this exam. Participants will also complete a hands-on test of competencies, consisting of 15 problems.

Students are advised to pre-register, as seating is limited. Participating students must be registered by their instructor.
