Aug. 21, 2003: Nordyne Selects Emerson For New A/C Line

August 21, 2003
ST. LOUIS — Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson, announced that it has been selected as a key technology provider for Nordyne's new line of ultra-high efficiency central air conditioners and heat pumps that will be sold under the Maytag, Frigidaire, Tappan, and Westinghouse brand names.

Nordyne's air conditioner is rated at 16 SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) and the heat pump is rated at 15+ SEER. Both use R-410A refrigerant. To achieve these SEER ratings, each system uses the new Copeland Scroll™ UltraTech compressor, which Emerson calls its next-generation two-stage scroll compressor designed to deliver superior energy efficiency.

"Customers continue to demand higher energy efficiency and alternative refrigerants in their HVAC systems, and these new systems offer both," Nordyne's president and CEO Dave LaGrand said. "Nordyne's product philosophy is to use proven technology in innovative ways. By using Emerson's scroll compressor and its other successful technologies, we are able to offer the quality and dependability that customers have come to expect from Nordyne and its name brand systems."

The new systems also include Emerson's Comfort Alert™ diagnostics module that helps analyze electrical problems and system-related faults. In addition, Nordyne recommends that its dealers carry White-Rodgers Comfort-Set® digital thermostats, another Emerson product. Comfort Alert has been designed to work with the Comfort-Set thermostat, providing the homeowner with an indoor indicator if system problems should occur or when service is needed. Nordyne also selected refrigerant flow and filter-drier devices made by Emerson Climate Technologies' Flow Controls division.

"When we learned of Nordyne's intention to launch the new high-efficiency HVAC equipment, we knew this was the type of project where Emerson technology and engineering could really add value for the customer," said Tom Bettcher, Emerson executive vice president and business leader of Emerson Climate Technologies. "We are pleased to have this opportunity to help Nordyne meet the growing demand for high-performance systems."
