CLEVELAND — Arzel Zoning Technology hosted an informational meeting with Sen. Rob Portman’s (R-Ohio) office Aug. 17, 2012. Caryn Candisky, Sen. Portman’s district director, Northeast Ohio, met with members of the Arzel management team to discuss local issues related to energy efficiency standards, technology, and legislation. The company is seeking assistance from local and state governments on the availability of grant funding for research and development projects related to energy efficiency and conservation. As with other HVAC companies, Arzel is faced with the growing demands from the Department of Energy (DOE) and similar organizations to meet regulation standards. Securing local funding for such research programs would help promote the overall product section of controls and enable the company to identify its products with concrete, credible, energy-saving data. “As a small manufacturer in the Cleveland area, we have consistently looked to develop products that provide energy-saving solutions for consumers,” said Dennis Laughlin, president, Arzel Zoning. “With the support of Senator Portman’s office, we hope to have a valuable partner in helping us interface with the Department of Energy to achieve our goals of being an accepted energy efficiency technology and create economic incentives for all our channels of business.” Sen. Portman is a member of the Subcommittee on Energy, which has authority over energy regulation, conservation, and standards. He recently cosponsored the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act (S.1000) with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.). The legislation focuses on incentivizing the use of energy-efficiency technology in both residential and commercial sectors that will increase economic competitiveness and encourage private sector job creation.
