May 10, 2012: BPI Works With RSES to Expand Accreditation Options for HVAC Contractors

May 10, 2012
MALTA, N.Y. — The Building Performance Institute Inc. (BPI) has announced another new accreditation option for HVAC contracting companies. BPI said it will now accept the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) certifications as prerequisite criteria for its accreditation program.

BPI said it recognizes the specialized training and work experience HVAC contractors bring to the home performance industry, and it has reviewed HVAC industry specific certifications that meet its criteria for accreditation. In March, BPI recognized the HVAC specific certifications from North American Technician Excellence (NATE) and the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA).

Certification requirements for BPI accreditation of HVAC contractors include the following.

The company must employ at least one staff member with the following certifications (or at least two staff members each of whom have one or the other below):

• BPI Building Analyst certification; plus

• RSES (one of three member designations); or

• NATE (Oil or Gas Service or Installation certifications); or

• NORA (Silver or Gold certification).

All other application requirements for BPI accreditation follow standard procedures.
